- Access Single-User Mode:
After booting, you will be dropped into a root shell without requiring a password.
- Remount the File System:
The root file system is mounted as read-only. Remount it as read-write:
mount -o remount,rw /
- Change Root Password:
Use the passwd command to change the root password:
passwd
Follow the prompts to enter a new password for the root user.
- Reboot the System:
After changing the password, reboot the system:
reboot
- Login with New Password:
Once the system restarts, log in using the new root password.
Important Notes:
- Ensure that you have physical or console access to the machine to perform these steps.
- Use this method responsibly and only on systems where you have the right to reset the password.
- If you are unable to access GRUB or modify boot parameters, you may need to consult your system documentation or administrator for assistance.
- These steps are generic and should work for most Kali Linux installations. However, specific configurations or system setups may require additional considerations. Always follow ethical and legal guidelines when working with system passwords.
